errmmm... my maths was never my best subject, but does that add up to $6,000?

If so I guess every man has his price, and 6K would be enough for me to part with it as well.

Tonight at a gig someone offered me £1500 ($3k) for my '72 and I damn near said OK. At the end of the day there are other nice guitars out there and the thrill of the chase is part of the fun.

I had two email offers (who knows how truly serious) one for $7.5K and one at $8.5K for my 4004LK. That is hard to turn down considering what I paid but I waited 4.5 years for it and it plays/sounds/looks fantastic so to me it isn't worth parting with. Someday an offer may roll in that is too good to pass up but I have no idea how much it would take. I'm not saying it is worth anywhere near that but apparently it may be to some.

Jeff's ex-'68 certainly is stunning and I'm not surprised it fetched that much money.

Brian, if you are being offered 7 1/2 now, think about what that will be 10 years from now.....Image

"put the full width crushed pearl inlays and checkered binding on this model:"

The new FWIs are not crushed pearl. I know as I have a 660/12!

I bought the '68 in '73 for $150 ... I played it for 31 years and sold it for $6500 ... it was a special bass ... it had some quirks ... it did not get the job done without being modified ... and I really hate to modify a 60's bass ... but the weak neck and weak pickups and .0047 capacitor were problems for me ... that bass screamed with 2 4003 11k ohm pickups installed and the capaciter removed ...

"$8.5K?!!!"

Those emails with the offers made me curious and someday I may throw it on ebay. I'll start the bidding at $1 with a $100,000 reserve just to see what the semi-true market value is.

Put me down for a fireglo V68!
If it's half as nice as Jeff's, it will be very special.

Brian ... think of all of the 4004CI, 4004CII, and 4004L, and 4003s8 basses you could buy for $8500 ...

and the V68 with walnut headwings, full width inlays, and checkered binding, horseshoe and toaster pickups, and flamed or quilted wood in fireglo finish ... man that would be a looker ... but the crushed pearl is no longer available ...
