Low E.... very low

euh...
I just got my veryfirst Rick. It`s a brand new 4003FG.

apart from the lovely squeech squeech of the gloss on my leather belt and a little loose saddle, this bass is perfect (i guess I'll get used to play on roundwounds)!!

BUT... My E string sounds just a bit less than the others. I tried to change the treble pickup so it is now closer to the E string and it helped a bit... but still, I would love to hear it more and I don`t want the pickup touching the string...

Any ideas???

It may just be a bad E string. If you have an extra set around just swap them out and you should be fine. I had the same issue when I received my LK in May so maybe they got a batch of semi dead E strings recently.

mine had this problem too, the saddle on the e wasnt cut deep enough

Yeah just fool with it, you'll figure it out, and you don't have to use RW's on rics BTW, I own 6 and 5 have flats on them.

Here we go nothing, just a fact. He stated that he would have to get used to playing with round wounds and I advised him it's not necessary that's all.

I'm not commenting on the flat vs. rounds.....I've found that argument quite silly. Whatever makes a person happy is fine by me.

I was simply saying that anytime rounds or flats are mentioned it turns into a free-for-all.....I'm not taking sides, just forcasting the storm of stupidity

replace the e and if that doesn't work, check the saddle.

I'm not going to argue with a bunch of close minded people, I answered a specific part of his post as ALL of you well know that can read, I am starting nothing. I did not realize that flatwound strings which MANY of us here use was a taboo topic.

Do you have to much relief in your neck? Try tweaking the rods just a bit. Sometimes this helps with my Ricks.

Check your nut height. ( no jokes here ), a high nut will make a Rick, or any bass for that matter play and sound just terrible.

Ok... euh... Well thanks for the tips, I`ll check it out with "Christine" tonight while my girlfriend is asleep... XP

And I'm Sorry for the flats/Rounds thing, i didn't want it this way...

In fact, I have always played with flats (mostly with my Dean accoustic bass), But I also like Squire's sound and I'm much into psychobilly so I have to get used to the feel of rounds... I was just saying that it was kinda weird for me to fully appreciate the sound and playability of my new baby with a kind of strings I'm not used to...
