Dating a Rickenbacher Electro Spanish

Post by jjohn »

A friend of mine just came across a Rickenbacher Electro Spanish guitar. He was told it is circa 1935 and is wondering if there is any way to verify this; the only marking he's been able to find inside the body is UVS2S.

He's also wondering what the value would be; the instrument is in good physical and playing condition, and appears to be all original except for the tailpiece.

Thanks in advance for your help,

John

Is that with the round neck profile?

Phew! When I read the thread title, I thought you'd taken Rickenbacker love to the next level!

John: I would start with the pot codes in this case. Also, any chance you could post a photo or email one in.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Graham, it is a round neck, and not squared like a dobro or lap steel, if that's what you mean.

Peter, I mentioned to him to check the pot codes; he told me he has since discovered another number inside the body: 3785H56. He said he'd try to get a couple of pic's over the weekend.

Update: It turns out that I also know a previous owner -- he tells me that he contacted Rickenbacker when he first got the instrument, they told him that the specific model in question was only manufactured from 1947 - 1949.

Still no pic's as of yet.
