Yoko on Birthday

Post by myfretless »

Does anyone know the story as to how Yoko got to be on "Birthday"? Her singing of "birthday" on the chorus cuts through like a Ginsu.

As this was Paul's song, did Paul ask Yoko to sing as an appeasement to John? Or did John insist on having Yoko on the song? Other than "Revolution #9" I cannot think of Yoko being on any other Beatles song. It just seems odd that she's on a Paul song.

So, which is the earliest Beatles' recording using non-Beatle voices? I vote for "I Am The Walrus"

My Vote - Mal Evans counting the measures at the end of "A Day in The Life" leading up to the BIG final chord!

That's right, I forgot about Bungalow Bill. How could I? Yeesh! Ok, so is it true that the wives were on Birthday? That makes more sense. Yoko just pierces above the rest.

"Yoko just pierces above the rest"

Linda's voice was a reasonable facsimile of what typifies a singing voice. Pattis' voice? Well who really knows? Has any one ever heard her sing solo? I haven't.

Yoko with her strange style of vocal gymnastics does a great imitation of a macaque that my wife and I encountered at a zoo in Ramat Gan Israel.

Perhaps she got her inspiration from listening to a group them at twilight. It is quite a sound to hear close up and from a distance it is quite eery.

We remarked at the time that John Lennon would love these guys because they sound like Yoko on some of his records.

Singer - No. Avant Garde artist - perhaps, performer - yes. John's soul mate - yes and that is really all that mattered to him.

Isn't it "Don't Worry Kyoko, Mummy's Only Looking for a Hand in the Snow?"
