Vintage tuning keys

Post by jps »

Anybody here well versed in vintage Fender and Gibson tuning keys? I just acquired some tuning kyes that I am fairly certain are from the mid '50!

The Gibson keys are the banjo style as used on the EB-1; I have five of these in a box that looks as old as the tuners.

The Fender keys are reverse wind, slot screw tuners that were used on the P Basses from '51-'57.

AFAIK, these are NOS!

Don't know about the Gibsons, but for the Fenders check out the bass section of www.fenderforum.com for info.

Lots of friendly folks there (some of whom I know personally) and I'm sure somebody there would know about those.

Good luck - those could be worth more than you think.

I've been there, hoping for more definitive info, although jazzbass66 sent me some pics and I am going to send him some of what I have.
