I had a bass with the mop inlays ... I always thought that material looked like cheap 60's plastic ... I really like the inlay material on new Rics ... also the grover tuners always looked cheap to me ... like they are about to fall apart ... and a lot of them do ... but what I do like about old rics is checked binding ...

Hee hee! No offense taken, I think someone else referred to them as "bathroom tiles"! Thanks for the kind words guys, I appreciate it muchly! It IS a beautiful bass, in fact too beautiful for me. After tiptoeing around this one for a couple of years I've come to the realization that, really, I kind of prefer beaters! Is that...wrong?
