Possible dumb question

Post by rob »

When choosing strings for a 4001, it should be Long Scale strings, right?

Yes, definitely.

At least you know to look...many years ago I bought my first set of strings and didn't pay much attention other than that they were the brand a friend recommended. You guessed it, short scales, and I compounded my problem by cutting off the old strings. As a teen with no car and the music store many miles away, I learned a valuable lesson.

BTW the only 'dumb' question is one that goes asked!

Heh!

I'm looking right now at my J-Bass: the G-string just past the circular string retainer on the headstock enters the ball of the previous set of string's G-string, ties into a small knot, and the previous set's G-string is what is wrapped around the tuner.

Tacky, but solved the scale problem ;-)

(Actually, I had the proper strings, but I accidentally cut the one too short!)

Yeah, I just wasted money buying Medium Scale strings. I didn't look on the box, stupid me. I didn't realize this until the strings popped off when I tried to tune them! Yes, I am Polish, go figure.
