what kind of strings are these?
On the newly aquired 72 it has roundwounds that have different color [balls] this doesnt sound good[the things that hold the string in the bridge.Colors are red,black,green,brass[plain]they have no felt.what kind of strings are these?? they feel good.

interesting... a while back I brought my (then new to me) ric to a local music store to get wired/setup and I asked for 45-105 rotosounds. They gave me strings that match what you described ken. They also tried to wire my ric like a les paul.
That store has not been allowed to touch one of my basses since.

..yeah, even the new D'Addario Pro Steels have the multi-colors ball ends. I guess that's to help you find each string easier since they have not been packed in separate individual paper envelopes.

I just put on a set of XL-165's, 45-105. Love the sound. How would you describe the difference between the 170's and the 165's? I figured the 105 would be a bit deeper than the 100. The 165's did bow my neck more than Pyramid flats, didn't expect that, but I adjusted the rods.
If it ain't broke, break it, then fix it.
