I just checked it out. The place that is auctioning it is right down the road from where I work. It is very nice. There are a few finish flaws however. The worst is around the bridge. The finish is gone. It looks like it peeled off. You can one side in the pictures. There is also a minor imperfection on the back. Other than that the finish is beautiful.
It has a December 1988 birthday and sweet neck that is much thinner that the later ones.
The story is that the person that brought it in had a store and this and several other gems have been sitting since. I checked out a 12 string Lennon Limited edition. There is also another Lennon, a 230, 330/12 and 620. I'm betting that they will hit the 'Bay very soon.

I've seen 4 v63's now with a similar issue at the bridge finish, including my own.

I suspect that it's cause lies in the bridge retaining screws being over tightened causing the finish to be damaged in this area.

I just posted a response about this bass in the Rics for Sale section, but I'll post here, too. The horseshoe appears to be a vintage 60's one. It has the more graceful curves than the reissue. Is this one of the early ones when they still were putting the original shoes in the V63's?

Gorgeous bass. Should be fun to watch this one!

Ken, you are collecting quite an investment portfolio.

I have been given the OK to invest a few K in them myself. I am indeed a lucky man!

I don't have a second half that is in charge of my wallet so I'm in good shape financially.

"The horseshoe appears to be a vintage 60's one."

Looks like slugs on the bobbin not screw tops.

Still a nice Bass. Wish it was available new from Rickenbacker...

"Because" I have a second half in charge of my wallet, I'm in good shape financially!
Otherwise, I'd be living in a tent with all my Rickenbackers!Image

My V63 is an 1988 model and the horseshoe in it has slugs, so I'm guessing this one does too. Beautiful finish on it though, a real looker.

You know, sometimes this place really hurts. I think that's the nicest V63 I've ever seen, even nicer than the one I bought but never received, and I know there's absolutely no chance of me getting it in this company! Image I'm obviously in the wrong job! And I'd already made a resolution to pay off my credit card...unfortunately in the girlfriend's presence Image.

I don't think that I've ever seen a fireglo I like more.....absolutely stunning.

It makes it even harder to wait for my C64FG. Those vintage Fireglo colors are really nice.
