A honey. An early 1950s carved-top Combo model.
The guy's relative traded an early '50s Tele for it in '56.
Imagine what that Tele is worth.
Anyway, I'd take this rarity on looks alone...

The Rickenbacker factory couldn't identify a Combo 800??!!!
The prices on these tend not to go too crazy- and this one has some issues. Along with those mentioned in the add, the nut & truss cover are incorrect. I'd guess it has no serial number because the bridge plate or jack plate was swapped out. This is the second version of the 800, with the larger pickguard- and there's no reason it wouldn't have been stamped with a serial number.

Thats what I thought when I saw the ad. The reserve was set quite low on this, so the seller obviously didn't think that it would go that high. I see Grahams high bidder at the moment. Good luck...a nice addition to any collection.

'Rickenbacker'...what a name! After all these years, it still thrills me.
