It looks like the bridge pickup on the teardrop Rick was thrown on it from across a room.

I Wonder what happened to the bass half of that 4080?

There's either a 4001 out there somewhere that isn't quite right....or it was sacrificed for the guitar half!

This is the response i got back...... The sound of the tear drop is fabulous - With the bass part of the
double-neck (which was heavy for me on stage, and not so useful
as I was expected), my inspired instrument-maker made an great 8
strings bass. I love guitars, as you do, and have respect about
them, but I love music more.
