Chaos is currect term

Post by eddied »

Hi all,
Just to start, I'm 53 and a devote Mcca worshiper, have several Ricks, Hofners, I'm a singer/bass player etc, and have followed every Paul move since 64'. I love him like everyone else, BUT, Chaos is TRULY LAME. His superior melodic sense is GONE. Of course this is only my opinion, but for me to admit this hurts. I never say negative things about Sir Paul. All the keys are low (obviously for vocal range @ 63 they have to be lowered), and the tunes (IMO) GO NOWHERE.The DVD attached to some of the CD's is interesting, but the whole effort to me was a big waste of energy. I have no idea what he was really trying to do musically. There are no McCartney melodies that hit you right in the face.....none. Fine line is the best tune (imo). That says it all!! Comments?????
Rick bass fanatic. I own and play several professionally. I have a passion for the S models.

The tunes I've heard I've liked, and am tempted to buy it. The only other Mac Cd's I own are Flowers In the Dirt, The Russian CD and Run Devil Run (I have McCartney (1) and Ram on Vinyl, but no record player!) I haven't bought a major artist release in years (usually just but DIY stuff by struggling bands). This new macca CD is certainly getting a lot of attention, for better and for worse. I will buy the new Stones CD too, 'cause it rocks.

What a great sounding album. Wonderfully recorded. Unfortunately, I find this album to be the least rocking and unmelodic McCartney album ever next to McCartney II. At least McCartney II had a hit song.

This time, he worked hard at improving his lyrics but neglected the melodies that I am so used to hearing from him. Fine Line & English Tea are the most McCartneyesq songs on the album. Now, I am not saying the songs lack total melody. It is just that they are not so instantly likeable or familiar like the melodies of Wanderlust (great melody & lyrics)or Beautiful Night (fair lyric and great melody). I am so accustomed to hearing songs from McCartney that seem so familiar on the first listen.

The song "Anyway" borrows heavily in parts from the song "People Get Ready" as some posts mentioned previously.

I am very disappointed that this album just does not rock at all. Fine Line and Promise To You Girl is all we get. The album should have been titled "Ballads & B Sides"
I just have the same feeling with this album as I did with McCartney II or Pipes Of Peace. I just don't listen to those albums anymore. I'd listen to Ram any day of the week over Chaos.
Boy, do I wish that his whole catalog sounded like this. Best recorded McCartney album soundwise ever!
By the way, to the guy who thought Jenny Wren is better than Wanderlust, I still think you're smoking crack!

I ordered "Chaos" even though I haven't bought anything by McCartney since "Flaming Pie." Sounds better on radio than on computer, for sure. As I've said here before, his catalog thtough 1970 is sufficent for me, although I like much of what he did through 1979, too. After that, spotty.

Did anyone see Paul tonight on VH1? It was a behind the scenes look at the making of "Chaos".
For those that missed it, it will be on again Friday the 16th at 9PM EST.
Let me say this, the title of the CD should have been call just "Chaos"! I never thought I would say this but this is Paul's worse work ever, and I sure hope he doesn't do much of this material on tour this year. The only song I thought was decent was "Anyway".
Paul is still very capable of much better than this IMHO. Image
Buy it before someone else does.

Bob,

I wonder if it the same as the DVD that is included with the Special Edition album?

I liked most of the album. I think you'll probably get 5 or 6 of these songs on his tour if past tours are any indication, especially since the reviews I have seen are highly favorable.

By the way Bob, How is that 4002 doing?

Brian,
The DVD is the same as what was on VH1 last night. They advertised the CD with the special edition DVD.
Dale Fortune still has the 4002, and he should be just about done with it. I originally had him refinish the neck, and when that looked so good, we decided to go all the way. From the pictures I saw so far, it looks fantastic.
I'll post pics when I get it back.
Thanks for asking.
Buy it before someone else does.

I HATED the whole Driving Rain album when I first heard it but as time went on and I listened to it more, I must say that I now like it a lot!!! Go figure.

First impressions of "Chaos" is the same. I don't hate it but, to me, it's boring. Ho-hum. Maybe he SHOULD have fired the producer and brought the band in for input. I guarantee with Rusty, Brian and Abe it would have been a lot more rocking. While I admire Paul's musical talent, he should stick to singing, bass and piano.

Ahem,

Scott if I could be so bold as to amend your words very slightly "he should stick to singing and playing bass."

There! Now I feel better about what you said.
