The "ReelinandaRockin" 2002 Tour
I have seen the tour and, in my view, Dave Berry adapted to this format the best of all of the five 'front men'. Mike gave a creditable performance but I much prefer to see in the MPS 'group' format alongside Kevin and Barry with Steve on drums behind him (but he least he came on stage with his 12-string). Believe it or not, Brian Poole gave a better performance than I have seen from him of late (the lowest point being Butlin's, Bognor in February 2001). Gerry was Gerry (larger than life as usual but singing well and playing excellent guitar). Mike D'Abo was good especially on "Handbags And Gladrags" which of course he wrote. All in all, an entertaining show but one probably best suited to the Summer 'end of the pier' show which is currently where it can be seen (each week in Great Yarmouth).
The Searchers are the best!

THANKS FOR ASKING,MY MAIN REASON FOR GOING TO SEE THIS SHOW WAS TO SEE MIKE PENDER, MY FIRST CHOICE ARE THE SEARCHERS, BUT I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO SEE MIKES GROUP, BUT UP TILL NOW HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL.I ENJOYED HIS SONGS, I NOTICED HE STILL SINGS "BEGINS" AND NOT "BEGINZER", I SUPPOSE HE CHOSE DON'T THROW YOUR LOVE AWAY ABOVE SUGAR AND SPICE AS HE SAYS IT'S HIS FAVOURITE NUMBER,HE DID SEEM A LIITLE UNEASY WHEN GUITARLESS, BUT THATS UNDERSTANDABLE AS I THINK THE OTHERS(APART FROM GERRY) WERE FRONTMEN TO THERE GROUPSAND ARE USED TO HOLDING MICS,GERRY MANAGED WELL TAKING THE MICKY OUT OF HIS AGE PRETENDING(?) TO GASP FOR AIR, I DON'T KNOW IF DAVE BERRY WAS AGAIN TAKING THE FUN OUT ON HIMSELF WITH HIS EXAGERATED MOVEMENTS,I KNOW HE WAS WELL KNOWN FOR THIS IN HIS YOUTH, BUT HIS COMMENTS ABOUT "BEING THE OLDEST MEMBER BUT COULD STILL DO UP HIS JACKET" RECEIVED A ROUND OF APPLAUSE AND CERTAINLY ENDEARED HIM IN MY MEMORY!I'VE SPOKEN ABOUT DAVE DEE EARLIER DEFFINITELY AN ASSET.BRIAN POOLE DIDN'T IMPRESS ME AND HIS ELTON JOHN EARRING WAS A NO NO(IMHO)BUT AS I AM A TREMELOES FAN I'M BIASED(REMEMBER THIS IS A PERSONAL REVIEW)THE OTHER THING I FOUND STRANGE WAS THE CHOICE OF THE NOLANS AS SO CALLED SPECIAL GUESTS, APART FROM A BRIEF FIVE MINUTE ATTEMPT AT SOME DUSTY NUMBERS, I TOOK LITTLE NOTICE OF THEM, STILL MAYBE THEY WERE THERE FOR THE MALE MEMBERS OF THE AUDIENCE"! ALL IN ALL THE SHOW WAS WELL PUT TOGETHER,THE AUDIENCE WERE NEVER LEFT WAITING AS THE ARTISTES FLOWED ON AND OF THE STAGE, THE CHOICE OF SONGS WAS EXCELLENT AND THE FINALE RANGED FROM THE MONKEES TO DAVE CLARKE FIVE,AGAIN A PERONAL VIEW,I DO GET A BIT FED UP WITH YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE BUT I REALISE IT HAS TO BE DONE HERE (AND NEARLY EVERY SIXTIES SHOW I'VE BEEN TO)AS FOR THE SEASIDE SHOWS, THIS IS HOW I FIRST BECAME A SEARCHERS FAN AND LIVING NEAR THE SEA MY LOCAL THEATRE HAS BOOKED MOST OF THE SIXTIES SHOWS GOING AND ACCORDING TO THE MANAGER COME SUMMER OR WINTER THEY ARE SOME OF THE BIGGEST SELLERS AT THE BOX OFFICE SO HE IS AS GRATEFUL TO THEM....HOPE YOU ENJOY READING THIS
Thanks Tim and Marie. I continue to be amazed at the popularity of these acts 40 years later. I wonder, have any of the performers commented that they too are surprised that they continue to perform and of the popularity of their music.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm
