And what would y'all make of this?

Went from a $2 dollar opening bid to almost $1100 in less than an hour's worth of bidding, with several days to go! Buckle up!
It looks like the real deal, but I'll defer to the more knowledgeable among you for the final word.

The first one looks like a 4003s except the headstock looks like somebody stained the headwings???
the second looks like a February 1968 4001s ... it looks to have been vigorously sanded down and it looks like the horseshoe got replaced with a high gain, the pickguard looks correct ... my '68 did not have a square heel ... the wood is pretty unremarkable ... here is my old '68 for comparison ... http://www.3dentourage.com/425/68-ric-2.htm

Call me crazy, but I think the second one is a v63 that someone is trying to pass off as a '68. It also looks like it was McCartneyized.
2 pickups and unbound body in the 60's would be a RM 1999 export model. Did they still make them in '68?
The bridge has visible mounting screws and the squared heel ala v63.
It wouldn't be too hard to make or replace the jackplate and even electronics to pass it off as the real thing.

Jeff, your '68 is stunning! every time I see it - wow!!!
It has to be used as the original to recreate the 4001v68!
