Well, it's not the absent 'adjustment crack' that gives the pickguard away as a non-original part - it's the crudely cut pickup hole, the shape of the pickguard shoulder by the neck, and the squared-off pickguard edge.

If yours has inlays that do not cover the full width of the fingerboard, then something is wrong....I believe April (MD), or possibly May (ME) of '73 was the last month to have full-width inlays. So if your serial# is MC and yours lacks full width inlays, then something is rotten in Denmark!

Bob, no worries, but thanks for the thought. To be honest if I went out and spent that much on another bass at the moment I think I'd find myself living out the rest of the year in the garden shed...although it may have been worth it! A bit special indeed...
