Hi,

I have sold my 4003 today. It will be shipped within a couple of days to its new owner's.

After 25 years playing Rickenbackers (on and off), I am now taking a new direction.

Rickenbackers are fabulous basses, but I must admit I was less impressed by recent 4003's than by my previous 4001's.

But anyway, I now have to move to something neatly different, and the 4003 wouldn't have fit my new musical direction.

At last, I wish to apologize, since several times, because Rickenbacker-related things made me angry, I probably was annoying, or disturbing.

Jean: Thanks for your kind comments and the input that you have provided for discussion. Posting on this forum is not dependent on owning a Rickenbacker. Your questions and comments are always welcome.

I hope you'll reconsider and let us know what your new axe will be. As much as I love Ric's, there ARE other basses (yes, sadly, 'tis true...). I also bet you'll miss your Ric and eventually get another. At any rate, here's to your future musical success.

The 4003 is different than the 4001 .... I have owned several ... I love the 60's 4001s nice slim neck and graceful beauty ... you gotta love that checkered binding ... the 70's rics have a stronger neck and that cool walnut stripe, but you gotta take out that bridge pickup capaciter ... The 4003 is a great bass but it sounds different ... the pickups are hotter and a little thicker ... I have a 4003s5 and I love the thunderous sound of that instrument ... but I must admit I really like jazz basses too ... you can never have too many basses ... Jeff

I know that feeling completely. I would love to get a 4001C64S bass to go along with my 4001V63. Only problem is getting the bread together. Ricks are the best basses around IMHO, but they ain't cheap. I'm not playing right now, so I guess I'll have to wait awhile to add to my bass collection.

Donc, vous avez renoncé aux Rickenbacker pour de bon? C'est dommage. Ce sont des basses vraiment attachantes. J'en ai cinq, dont une double-manche. Je ne me lasse jamais de mes Rickenbacker!

Yeah, that's really sad in a way, but I spent thousand euros into new basses, and not a single buck for a RIC. I bought a honeyburst Musicman StingRay 5, an olympic white 70's Fender P-Bass and a natural finish mahogany Status Energy 4, but no RIC. During 25 years of my life, I couldn't imagine a bassist's life without at least one RIC...

The times they are a changin'...

Hi, Jean. Thanks for your message. Is there really no way you're going to buy a Rickenbacker again? Take a look around you - there are dozens of inviting used (and new, of course!) Rick basses around asking you to take a chance on them...

If I ever pick up a RIC one day, there are many reasons why I'm sure this will be a used one. And probably and old one. All the best.
