Lurkers

When I posted a few weeks ago about how excited I was about seeing a 4005 at CME, that was just it. I never saw one before in the flesh and I pleased as punch to even hold it in my hands. Face it, we just love Rickenbackers, and I do believe that we are just trying to help one another out. I'm just happy that the 4005 went to someone who will enjoy it for what it is; and not solely as another notch in the portfolio.
Ken, if I don't have to be on travel during the confluence, the first beer (or soda!) is on me.

I was a lurker right up until I posted this message. I wasn't going to post until my 4003MG showed up but that day has been and gone (a fantastic day, by all accounts).
The guy who got the '73 in the UK posted about it on the official Ric site the other day, so I imagine he knows about this place too.

Welcome Mike. Looking forward to your second post.

Hi! This is my first message as well. Just received a great FG4003VP from Cole (LoveRickBass)which brings me back to owning a Ric. It's nice to have one again. (I'm entering my second wave of Ric obsession!) I've owned 2 FG4003 and one MG4001V63 as well as a '67 FG4005 (GE 2451, I think, but can't remember) that I sold a couple years ago.

My 2 cents: I'm a relatively new member of the forum and I don't post a whole lot but I do watch what some of the senior members have to say about a particular piece on Ebay and here's why; I am not a heavy-duty expert on the features of vintage Rickys and sometimes a bass will pop up on Ebay and the guys who know their vintage Ricks will immediately come forward with what's right and what's wrong with that bass. The information you guys post is worth it's weight ten times over and I have backed off of more than one piece I wasn't quite sure of. Here's a tip 'o the hat for that!! So, if you educate or assist someone in making a several thousand dollar decision, take it as a major positive. It's just a reflection of a well educated and overall friendly board and there's nothing wrong with that.....

Yeah, Ronan-I agree with you. I would imagine that some dealers or sellers would skulk around the site, looking for chat about a bass they might be getting ready to sell and then overprice it according to how much is said about the piece. God forbid the terms "crushed pearl" or "checkerboard" are ever used. Then the guy sitting on his couch, eating cans of Pringles thinks his '72 refin with a Baddass is worth $3900.00. Go figure....
Marshall's a good man, I've dealt with him on non-Ric stuff. He certainly knows how to get to the bottom of a situation, which is important when buying vintage stuff. Ken is very much like that as well.
Getting back to the task at hand, we can't stop the lurkers. If we made it private, the could still sign up, enter and lurk. Not a big deal with me.

Thanks,guys-you're too kind. I just have a firm belief that if we remember things like honesty and integrity when dealing with each other, then maybe every now and then, the good guys will win. Now, if only I could only get my wife to agree with you- she still thinks that a basement full of basses should equate to new hardwood floors.....

hello-
i am a relatively new member of the rickresource forum. i enjoy it and
post on occassion.
currently, i am bidding on a bass at ebay (7350799558) and was
contacted by another bidder.
this bidder alerted me to a post on your forum by ken swearingen under
the thread "FG v63 on the 'bay". i am happy to forward you the email
from the third party if you would like to see it.
the post suggests that this aforementioned rickresource forum member is
running up the price without intention of buying.
this is obviously illegal. before i contact ebay, i wanted you to know
of this incident.
i am a fretted instrument collector and own my own guitar company so i
am well aware of the "culture" that emerges on forum sites. this,
however, is inappropriate.
thank you,
