Aye, Melissa. Two years ago today, I began to talk like a pirate around my office. I was asked by another "pirate" if I knew what pirates called secretaries. I responded, "wenches?"

The next week, a wench, er, secretary with a grudge against me (I had replaced her incompetent friend and he had become an EX-pirate) filed a sexual harrassment complaint against me with the University.

I did not find out WHY it was filed, WHO filed it, or the CIRCUMSTANCES until the University had conducted a diligent, mandated, and very expensive investigation.

Six paranoid weeks later, I was summoned and told the circumstances (I had used the word "wench" in mixed company), that the investigation was completed, and that charges would not be filed. But they would not tell me exactly WHO filed the complaint.

However, she had been transferred to another office the previous day, and quit soon thereafter. It was pretty easy to figure out, HAR.

Can ya imagine that, Mateys?

So I talk like a pirate at home only. Be that a parable on your shouldy, Melissa?

I can see I'm gonna have to head down to Disneyland for a pirate fix now. It's never been quite the same since the "wench auction" part of the attraction was removed but it will have to do."Yo ho, yo ho, a pirates life fer me!"

They must have looked up the word WENCH in the dictionary. It does sound offending, It's definition is "a young lady." I had a girlfriend back in 1985 and she was also offended by this word when my friend called her a wench.

Aaaaarrrrgggghhhhh!

Anybody remember John Lennon's pirate story from "In His Own Write"?

It would be a fitting way to end this thread...

Shiver me timbers, Paul, it seems the PC crowd wants to take all the fun out of everything, including being a pirate.... My whole crew of scallywags has been talkin' like pirates all day long-- and even answering the phone in "piratese".... I guess we can afford to be a little frivolous when we run our own business, LOL! ....You should have made her walk the plank...

This would be a good night to watch "Pirates of the Carribean." I'd rent it if I didn't have so much to do tonight.... My first mate keeps saying "Jolly Roger" with an evil grin....

Dane,

They didn't remove the auction scene, it's completely intact. The changes were made to the next scene, the one where the pirates are chasing the women. They put food in the women's hands and made it look like the pirates were gluttonous rather than lustful. Last time I checked, both were mortal sins, so I don't understand the difference.

Anyway, the dialogue and Audio-Animatronics from the auction scene are the same. Oh, they did change the redhead a bit. She doesn't have a come-hither smile any more. And the pirate on the right bank who leads off the chant of "We wants the red'ead" is often missing (there's a box in his place). I guess he hasn't been working too well in recent years.

I am thankful that our parrot is still at the lake with my wife. With all this pirate talk she would likely have a relapse and stop being a nice easy going bird.
