He actually sent a similar reply to me...

ebay is a forum for selling things. most folks know that since the description had a space between model# & the s-- that the shorthand means stereo. To keep it very clear-- the color is not Azure blue.

My reply....
Just to be clear, ALL 4003 basses are Stereo. The "S" is mono. Most folks don't know that, which is why I wrote you.
Also, AzureGlo was the only blue finish offered by Rickenbacker until 1985, Midnight Blue started in 1986. So if it's an '80, it's AzureGlo.
See the color chart here, if youre interested.

He was starting to P*ss me off, I was just trying to be nice and help him get more for it...AG is always worth more than MID.

So Ken, don't feel "dumb", I think he knows who the dummy is now.

On the Ebay listing that Sean posted about, when the seller says in his description "(first year made)", does he mean to say that 1980 was the first year of a.) The first year of the color b.) The first year for the "S", or c.) The first year Rickenbacker made a bass guitar?

Or D.) The first year of Ric-O-Sound?
Probably D and B are the same here, since he thinks "S" means ROS Stereo.

i took it as meaning the first year of the 4003, which is correct as a 1980...but...since it's not an 80. Image

I think he and the Emperor deserve each other. They'll get along famously!

That or they'll be too similar and hate each other's guts!

it gets better with today's email:

"then you are not a very good collector, but obviously not a musician. i do have all the original paperwork on this 4003 and the pictures alone make it very clear. I put S for stereo as I know I am dealing with inexperienced idiots like you --who really need everything spelled out. don't email me again"

Or we could just send Ken S. and Jared N. over to punch him in the 'shnazola'...
