Help in Kingston

Post by blackdog »

Hey everyone,
I recently moved to Kingston Ontario for schooling, and I'm have trouble finding any sort of place that would carry a Rickenbacker. I've checked out two guitar shops, and both said that they never have them in stock.
Are there any of you out there that could assist me in finding a Rick around here?

You'll have to travel to either Toronto, Ottawa or Montreal to find a RIC.

You might get lucky and find one at L&M in Oshawa, but I wouldn't count on it.

I'm in Montreal and I ordered mine up from the states. It was less expensive (even after shipping, customs brokerage and currency conversion) than either of the two shops I tried in Montreal and Ottawa that are Ric dealers (Steve's). There was no stock in either store (had to try a second hand one I found in a small shop... way too expensive too), and I was quoted 18-20 months wait (at the time the factory wait time was around 10 months). Price from Steve's was $1000CDN more than I paid from the US, and way more than MSR.

Anyway, I found my 660/12 in the US and had a great experience getting it. Learned my lesson.

I'd probably shop out of Canada too if I were you.

I got mine on eBay with no problems and there's not a single Ric dealer around here!

Hey Sam,

welcome to the forum. Same story here. I bought my 350 and my 360/12 from the States. I was fortunate enough to find my 4001 locally at a really good price.

If you're heading to Toronto Sam, let me know-I've hunted them down in that fine city (as a few others here have) and we can tell you where to go. I live in Hamilton though and went into upstate New York to get mine-not a lot of choice up this way.

BTW - That post felt good-much too busy lately and I'm missing the Forum....

Yeah I'm gonna be going to T.O. in like 2 weeks, so I wouldn't mind getting a list of places I could check out. The one's i know so far are Capsule Music and Pauls Boutique.

Both Capsule & Paul's Boutique have great websites. I know Capsule has a few Ric's in right now. What model are you hunting?

Capsule is a great little vintage shop and they usually have a nice selection of used Rickenbackers. Down the street is Songbird Music where I've seen the odd Rick over the years.

Songbird has nothing in at the moment but there are a few in Capsule right now (check out their website). Steve's Music also occasionally has them-there were two 330s in about 4-6 months ago but the last time I went (2 months ago maybe?) they were gone. They don't last long there.
