wait a minute ... I think the screws on the jack plate on my '68 were phillips ... not straight ...

this bass is a wrong 'un

but the jackplate might be real.
at least I don't believe it has been altered from H3 to HB.
The RIC website calculates H3 400 as an invalid serial number
(same for H3 40)

He may have made it from a blank, though.

He's going to have to try a lot harder to fool you guys,
and I am confident he would still fail!

hehehehehe ... that is a 1896 ricky 4010bhs model ... it has bunghole sound ... and rustun tuners ... very rare one of a kind from the factory in Fernwood Ohio ...

I would bid as much as $500 - $700 for the 4001v63 carcass ... pretty much all of the hardware needs to be replaced ... I would refinish it cream like a 4001cs and leave the headwings exposed and add a low B string put all new chrome and new plastic and new electronics on it ... then I would have a 4001CS-5 a real one of a kind bass ... but the current price is about 2 to 3 times its value ...

How did this guy manage to get this thing looking so horrible? It looks like all the metal parts were dragged around some salty midwestern streets in the winter for a season or two.

See thats another thing that tells you hes the one that did the jack plate,If your selling[or own] a 68 whatever would you leave the tailpiece dirty and not clean it, unless your trying to make it look old.

That poor tailpiece! And who did the intonation on it? The TRC looks very odd. The lettering is off center & too small.
