That is good, because you can't just lurk in the chat room...you can, but your name shows up.

I'd even contribute to the cost of a private chat room, considering all the deals I've gotten on Rics thanks to this forum.
If you think all is going well, you've obviously overlooked something.

I don't really feel that it is necessary....I just don't think it is a big deal to censor ourselves or resort to a few quick emails.

I'll go with the majority though and if Peter passes a collection plate I'll chip in.

I am willing to give this idea a trial run for a brief period to see if it suits. Brian, I am with you, but we will see how useful this really is.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Personally I think its a great Idea,It gives us an option, when we need one another's advice but don't want the wrong people knowing.

This is turning into something very interesting. I am usually quiet about auctions I am interested in, but so far most have been for non RIC related items. However, discussing things among us privately will certainly help those we want to have win a particular instrument, Marc and his 4005, for example.

Not pertaining to anything else in this thread, I never cared for having my last name posted out there for all to see...but maybe that's just me.

How does it keep anyone from using someone elses name? I had just logged into there, changing my name since my name is also too long.

This is a very interesting topic, guys...
In my opinion General interest in Rickenbacker instruments all over the world is totally different than in fenders or gibsons...the general musician is not particularly interested into ricks..ot at least they prefere buying fenders or gibson ... As Scott Doseck said.."we are our worst enemy"...It means that when an interesting Ric instrument is on ebay most of the bidders are forum members who know well the value ...so it looks like we significantly contribute to decide what the value of a vintage rick is.....and yes we are friends each other...but what if you are really interested in that wonderful 60s 4005...or that nice 68 4001...we better not talk about it in the forum, saying too many Oooohh, Ahhhh, I wish, "only" $5,000..cool!, and so on...Dealers and professional collectors or lurkers are reading us wishing to make a big deal...
Personally I have no ebay account so I can't probably imagine the sense of frustration Ken is talking about...we need the contribution of you here, Ken, so don't go :-)
Maybe a private rooms for loyal forum members who are really interested to share opinions and experiences would help

Good idea and solution I think!
Tell me does it feel the same when you've set upon a change but your heart's in the old times?

Waay back before the forum, Peter had a room set up on firetalk (before it went bust). It was possible to TALK to each other & even PLAY music back & forth across the net. Firetalk could set up closed rooms for private chat purposes.
There are other similar type chat rooms around that are free.(Paltalk?) I for one would LOVE to see this again because I'm a lousy typist & would much rather talk to people.
Anyone think this could work?
