At tonights band rehearsal, as my 230 was in the van, I thought I'd use it. It sounded fantastic, but half way through the rehearsal, in between songs, the bridge pickup suddenly stopped working. I opened the back up & found that the earth wires from both pickups were very long & unprotected. The bridge pickup earth wire was laying flat across the PCB & was touching a contact point & was presumably shorting out. I pulled it away & put electricians tape around both earth wires & it now works perfectly.
How odd! Assuming that this is all original (it looks like it), then either of these pickups could have stopped working at anytime from 1985 to the present day! I thought this was rather bizarre...or maybe you had to be there!

'Rickenbacker'...what a name! After all these years, it still thrills me.

I don't think so Howard. It was a pretty normal sort of Carnivores rehearsal. You know....jumping off of 4x12's, whacking cymbals with your headstock, generally playing too loud & using & abusing your Ric. Then off to the pub. Pretty average really....
