That's the place for a World Rickenbacker Confluence...I'm claimin' to have been the first to suggest it! Although obviously the real credit goes to Howard for his painstaking research...

Actually Jerry, the notion that "golf" is an acronym for "gentlemen only, ladies forbidden" is false. From snopes.com...
A theory ascribes golf to the Scottish goulf (also gowf), a verb meaning "to strike or cuff." This theory would at least place the origin of the word with the people who invented the game. As for "striking or cuffing," an integral part of the game is, after all, hitting the ball.

Another favorite urban legend about golf is that a golf course has 18 holes because there are 18 shots in a fifth of Scotch. This is not true - St. Andrews has 18 holes so every course after them has 18 - but it's a swell myth

Yeah, I love snopes.com - all sorts of urban myths explored and/or debunked. Not as much as I love this place though Image

I just counted the significant holes on my 620/6. Six for tuners, one for the pickup switch, five for controls, two for pickups, two for output jacks and two for strap buttons.

Eighteen!!

Yeah, but...why does St. Andrews have eighteen holes? There has to be some reason...I don't see how we've debunked the 'urban legend' here at all...
