One thing I've never understood about the 4000 is why it has the same basic geometry of the 4001 pickguard, where showing off more wood would be good...
As the ladies might say...ahem! I mean like a 4004, but with a small guard to cover the control cavity (ala the 650 guitars)...
Very nice Dave. I wonder how many in this forum can represent? BTW...does that PU have the .047 cap on it? (I seriously doubt it...)
Above e-mail is inactive. try ed_ardzinski@**** where **** is Hotmail.com or Yahoo.com. I tend to see things inthe hotmail box quicker...
The 4000 first came out in 1957, long before the 4001. The first years had a differently shaped pickguard.I think that changed in 62 but I am not positive. They did not have the .0047 cap. They did not make many of the early ones.
Originally the pickguard also covered up the trussrod slots which could sometimes extend inches into the body & it's part of the furniture since.
Keep the pics coming, we don't see enough 4000's.
Here is a pic from 1969 with my first Rick. Wish I still had this
one. It had a horse shoe on it. I will have to search to see if I
can find a pic of my current 4000. One of these days I will get
into the 1990's and buy a digital camera. Until then I will
depend on friends.
Here's my March 1976 FG 4000. I'm the second owner, & when I got it you should have seen the crud under the pickgaurd from all of the spilled beer that went into it.
