Stoned: The Brian Jones Story

I hear it's being released in the UK in November. Anyone know of any US dates?

No, I haven't heard of it.
But, I do have a Rolling Stones biography, were the book actually made him out to be a drug addict looser. I realize he did his share of drugs, but I'd much rather hear more about the positive things, like his music he helped write.

Yeah, those darn 'drug addict losers'...Charlie Parker, Stan Getz, Jimi Hendrix, Hunter Thompson, Timothy Leary, John Sinclair, Tommy Chong, Mike Wallace, Carl Sagan, Ben Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Edison...

Wouldn't we have had a swell culture without them?

Separate the people from their product. Genius carries with it a heavy load of conflict. If you're a genius in a good-paying field, you can get the money to feed your habit or your rehab, and the recognition to soothe your soul.

If you ain't got that do-re-mi, you suffer much, much more.The most tormented are the artists and musicians, and those who think they can go it alone.

Their lives, successes and shortcomings are all part of the human condition, and we must take what we can from them to allow them to help us.

Now, about repeated idiocies and failings of public figures...

Yeah, JJ, you're right again as usual...and some of the people I mentioned weren't necessarily tortured artists working thanklessly on the fringe...they were perhaps just trying to alleviate the pain of having to wear wooden teeth.

What a 'Fetid Fervor of Freedom' was produced in their thinking, nonetheless...

Paul: I know what you mean about separating the artist from the product. I realized long ago that much of my favorite music is/was made by people that I wouldn't want to hang around with. They would include John Lennon, Ray Davies, Bob Dylan, Pete Townshend, Paul Weller, and Elvis Costello to name a few. I think it's interesting to note that when Weller finally met his hero Townshend, they both walked away disgusted. I have found that I can enjoy their music and forget about their personal behavior, politics, addictions, and other failings.

I read several of the books about the Stones in the 90s. They all basically confirmed what we aready knew.

Anyway, I see them one week from Thursday!

I'll be in Miami checking them out too. Their last show there was one the best shows I have ever seen them play.

I wonder what Keef's creativity would have been without the help of certain substances...

Keef's creativity came courtesy of listening to blues recordings (or 'race' records, as they used to be called) at 3 a.m., as did that of many other British Whiteboy players of the time. The substances were necessary for duplicating the mindset of the performers as an aid to processing the information.

You ain't gonna get what Howlin' Wolf is about on nothing more than smoking fags and drinking Orange Pekoe...
