Ric. did a wonderful job on the C64 but the trc has been driving me crazy since day one,I plan to make my own trc for it and you uy can judge,sorry JH i cant stand it.

Here is the original TRC, taken in 1967. Note that the "R" is farther away from the screw than the current TRC on his bass, and the slope is gentle at the end, too.

Where is that TRC today....

I was looking at a couple of NOS 60's lefty TRC's the other day somewhere...$300 a piece if I remember correctly...

The original TRC on Paul's bass had no 'Made in USA' on it.....The one on Paul's bass today dates from the early to mid 70's, probably replaced at the time the zero fret mod was performed on the bass, or when the bass was returned to RIC to be sorted out...

See how they all start off straight then curve with the trc the c64 lettering starts off curved then straightens out .That what I mean.

Thanks for sharing the black-and-white picture of MacCartney!! As I recall, I saw it in "Sixteen" magazine in the summer of 1966 ("The Paperback Writer sessions"). That was the very reason I ever wanted a Rickenbacker bass. After settling for a '70 4001 and, later, a 4001CS, I'm finally getting a 4001C64FG next week. Thanks for the memories!!

Kevin,

It's been hashed around a couple times about Paul's pickup selection. I don't know if it's ever come to a consensus though.
My personal "guess" is the selector is wired for a right hand bass since his was one of the first lefties made. So the down position is actually the front pick-up. It's got too much bass to be the rear pu since it probably had the capacitor wired in.

Does anyone know how the pickguard got cracked?

I have to agree with Ken about the TRC, the old one that Paul has looks better than the other one on the C64.

interesting. you may be right about the pickup selection. the neck pickup volume looks like it's set to full and the bridge along with the treble volumes are way down.

We have debated this before. The RM1999 basses should be toggle up for the bass/toaster p/up. I think one of Gerry's basses is reversed if memory serves me correctly. Gerry?.

So I tend to think he may have had a lefty/reverse harness in there, where the toggle down is bass/toaster. McCartney is right over the toaster in that pic, and with a capped horseshoe I can't believe he got so much bass just out of the treble p/up.
