Neil, I definitely want to see that article - it sounds interesting.
When Marr was on tour with the Healers, he was definitely playing a black McGuinn 370-12. Otherwise, I've picked up a lot of confusing information over the years: First, that he started out with a Ric-12 to emulate old Phil Spector records and to avoid blues cliches... second, that he got his first Ric after joing the Smiths... third, that he's kept one of his first Rics (the first?), an unbound MG 330-6 (not the jetglo model we're accustomed to seeing), fourth, that the Rics that he recorded with were borrowed and were originally McGuinn's...
One thing most people agree on: "Meat is Murder" is the most Rickenbacker-laden album, and that's evident just from listening to it.

Hehe yes they were out and out liars the smiths, there was also a twelve string that he had that was supposed to have been lent to him by phil manzerra, load of rubbish- great hype though- ive sent the article to you mate. MIM- headmaster ritual is the killer ricky song for me, i particuarly love that nashville tuned thing that appears in the chorus's i dont know if that a ricky or an acoustic but its fasntastic.

Here's an early Smiths vid with Johnny playing his 330/6JG...as usual the camera is mostly fixed on Moz but there are a couple close-ups of the guitar. I love that twangy, rockabilly tone.
