I saw TOOL on the side stage at the third Lalapalooza in 1993 and Paul played a CS throughout the set. I also saw a backup, I believe Mapleglo 4001 or 4003 on the side. He had like four Mesa 810 cabs. Sounded awesome. Just listen to Sober off the first album. It's pure Ric tone. You can vaguely see it in the video for that song as well.

First known "Professional" (ehem) bar Chris himself to use a CS on stage.

Interesting.

He doesn't do very much with it though, does he, on "Sober"

I received the 4001CS today. After my initial inspection I was slightly disappointed in the condition. It played okay but the action was just a little high and cosmetically there were a few issues.

The minor buckle rash mentioned in the auction did seem minor but there were dull black streaks in the scratches and there were several blackish scratches around the edge of the bass. These were some things that I certainly would have mentioned in the auction....but I am also pretty picky. Also by one of the screws on the pickguard the rear white finish is damaged a little....again it isn't major but I would have mentioned it.

Well I spent about an hour with my allen wrench and various car polishes/waxes and that made all the difference. All of the blackish streaks buffed out leaving some very light buckle rash that doesn't go through the clear coat. The action adjusted down nice and low with no fret buzz. It plays/sounds excellent.

There are a few very minor dings around the edge of the body and a few very small nicks that don't go through the clearcoat, the paint problem on the rear of the pickguard (mentioned above), and some light guitar stand discoloration on the rear of the neck (I have seen much worse) are the only negative issues.

Overall now that it is cleaned up/adjusted I have no issue with saying that the condition is "very good used".

I'd say the sellers brief/vague description was fair but I like to be more specific and point out ANY issues so a buyer is pleasantly surprised when a Ric I sell arrives. I'll chalk up my initial reaction to me deserving it due to jumping on the BIN without getting further info. With a clean-up and better pics I think the seller could certainly have received more $$$$$.

I'll have it in the "For Sale" section if anyone is interested and it is going on Ebay this weekend.
