My wife bought me one for Fathers day. I had to return it. They sent me another one, I had to return it. They sent me another one, I had to return it. I finally got one that "works" , but barely.....When you plug your bass into it, you are supposed to be able to adjust the volume of it, louder or softer according to the cd you're listening to. The first 3 I got , you couldn't hear the bass thru it AT ALL. The one I have now is barely usable.
I don't like it. Unless I'm doing something wrong with it, I think this thing is a piece of junk.

I have the original version, which has a few less features and you have to access some of the functions, like the tuner, through a menu instead of a stand alone button. I have no problems hearing my bass through it relative to the CD. I find it to be a very useful tool when learning new songs. The pitch changing function is especially useful. A band I was in previously changed the key on a lot of songs that we did, so it was very handy to be able to play along in the key I would be doing the song in.

I use a program called Amazing Slow Downer from www.ronimusic.com
try the demo and see what you think.
plug bass into 'pute, plug the 'pute into a hifi and away you go.

Another vote here for Amazing Slow Downer software. My teacher has the guitar version of the Tascam, and I thought it was a pretty cool box and was considering buying one. A little web surfing turned up the ASD software, and it did everything that I wanted from the Tascam. Speed up/slow down, change pitch, select arbitrary start/end times, repeat sections of a song, eq., and more. It does tie you to the computer, the Tascam certainly beats it for portability, but I recommend checking out the free demo of the software before plunking down the $$$ for the Tascam.
