I won't speak for John but I believe it is the same guitar. Dan Schafer put one up for sale recently.

Yes indeed this was Dan's guitar and I bought it recently from him (great guy BTW). I had thought a fellow named Al had owned it before Dan - I'd be interested in what you know about it Woody - were you the original owner?
The story is that this was made for Dan Seals, but made 'incorrectly' as a right-hand guitar, and then sold as a 'second' in a store in CA. So I would think it wouldn't be 'one-of-a-kind' - wouldn't a left-hand version have been made to fill the original order? I've also heard of 381's with the TP neck - anyone know more?

Dan is a great guy (and a fair-to-middlin' guitar player, too!). This is one of several SPC's I've owned over the years (2 MG, 3 JG, 1 FG) and the only wide-neck I've ever seen. Ironically, I sold it because I had gotten used to the narrower necks and this one, although rarer, felt like a Louisville Slugger. I bought it in the local Recycler here in OC about 5 years ago.
The left-handed replacement made for Seals is now owned by a fella in Kansas. I have the RM compressor that was fitted to that guitar. It was broken so he was willing to swap it to me for a Keeley.
John, that body is consistent with the other RM-era 21-fret 370/12s I have seen. Lucky man- what a fabulous feature, the wide neck.
