Looks like fireglo to me. But what's up with those knobs? I've never seen them so close together. Obviously a replacement guard. I've made a few replacements myself and drilling the holes is the easiest part. But what a nice bass!

There was some discussion not too long ago about whether Autumnglo wasn't just a dark application of Fireglo. This one is beautiful, but I believe it is more orangey-brown than the redder Fireglo. Beautiful instrument, and it's got me thinkin'. This is the color I was after when I was trying to refinish my '72 MG back in 1975 -- with Zip Strip, cherry stain, polyurethane, and an airbrush. Ah, my misspent youth.

Don't know what the colour is, but wouldn't it make a great colour for 2006 ?

That looks almost exactly like my Montezuma Brown 4003. I'd say Autumnglo . . . but the pictures might not represent exactly how it looks in person.

Looks like Walnut to me. If it has a satin finish it would be Autumnglo seeing that it was made in 77.

All the photos of the back of the bass make the bass appear to have a gloss finish, hense Walnut.

From alt.guitars.rickenbacker faq

Subject: 5.26 What is the difference between Autumnglo and Walnut?

"The earliest version of Autumnglo was simply shaded brown. The middle clear areas on most of these old guitars have yellowed, but wasn't originally apparent. The next version was just Fireglo laid on rather heavily. The last version was back to that original brown, but in a satin finish, while the gloss version of that color was designated Walnut.

So when someone says Autumnglo, you always have to ask "WHICH Autumnglo"?"

Its an Autumn Glo. I have the same bass in lesser condition (I actually have gigged with mine)

the knobs do look close together. One thing I have noticed though, you can take two ric's from the same era and see big differences. The wave at the top of the headstock can go from an elegant swell to a crude cut.

there was an autumn glo on ebay (sold i neurope) and it was 100% brown... this one could go either way... but I say fireglo. Could just be the lighting though.

This is a photo of my 1977 Walnut 4001. Definately brown with a gloss finish.
