Here's a picture of my 10 year old Grandaughter Alexandra Souther playing her new Guitar. Electric Guitar lessons start next week for her so we couldn't wait till Christmas. She's been playing her 3/4 size acoustic for 6 months and we wanted her to get into the electric guitar as soon as she was ready. She loves it.

Well she was surprised, but like most 10 year olds, it was no big deal. She will appreciate it over the years as time goes by and hopefully it will remain with her as she matures. I know for myself that I've keep all my guitars that I bought in the 60's and I'm glad I did. They are priceless in many ways.

I thought about building a RIC 325 style guitar for my first guitar, but decided I would build something entirely unique instead. Its been done about 10 years now, and plays and sounds really nice, though it does take some getting used to. I can guarantee its a one of a kind for sure! I'd love to hear what people think about it. Sorry the guitar is so far away in the pic.

Dale, she looks cute with her new Electro. Plenty of work with a full-scale fretboard, I'll bet!
She's a very lucky girl. My 8 yo daughter's the same--very matter-of-fact on the surface, but you can see the wheels turning.
Today at breakfast, she asked me,"Daddy, how hard is it to paint Fireglo?"

Dale, seeing your granddaughter's pic reminds me of something that my sister told me.
At Christmas, 1998 I gave my then eight-year old nephew a RIC 1000 which I had found at a LA garage sale. When my sister took him to his first guitar lesson, the instructor wanted to know what kind of guitar that Bobby had.
When Bobby pulled the 1000 from the case, the instructor supposedly said, "Holy S@#%, what idiot gives an eight-year old a vintage Rickenbacker."
Whereas, Bobby answered, "My Uncle Richard."
I can imagine that you granddaughter's instructor may have had (or will have) the similar thoughts.
Regardless, your granddaughter will appreciate the labor of your love.

Thanks for taking a look guys. I've heard all sorts of jokes about it, but it never fails to get a response wherever I play. I can use the hook on it to bring cute girls closer to the stage!
Dale, I'm in Hillsboro and would be interested in an apprentice position if you're seriously looking for one? I've talked to Saul Koll about it in the past also. Let me know via email. Thanks.
