"Side dots are OK when you're starting out, but I think they are unnecessary after you've played a while"
I bow to your expertise and great musicianship but I find when playing and singing McCartney's parts it is often necessary to look at the side dots, there's a lot going on. Plus, I've only been playing since 1976.

Ronn: Answer is, no. At least we hope not.
And you know what, I consciously decided to see if I looked at my side dots this week when playing. I didn't. But I DID look at my fret positions, usually just before a song started, especially if it was in a flat key signature (which we do a lot of in church). However, I also played quite a bit from frets 14-16 on all five strings and didn't catch myself looking then. I remember playing "Getting Better" years ago and having a hard time singing it at the same time, but I also did Silly Love Songs" quite a bit and don't recall having to look at all. Maybe some positions just feel better than others.
