Bought my 4th Rickenbacker today!

Post by seaneldon »

Wow, haven't been here in a while. This was the first place that I decided to post this up, though...

So, I own a pretty "high end" recording studio in New York. I see clients 4-6 days a week. I see a lot of guitars brought in by lots of people.

Last week a band comes in for their first session. The guitar player sees my 330 and 360 in the live room and immediately says "Hey, you'll like my guitar!" and pulls out the most gorgeous Mapleglo 381V69 I could ever hope to see. Character for days, and certainly a head turner. My jaw dropped even more when he plugged it into my Blackface Bassman and proceeded to crank it up. Upon first listen, it sounded a tad more "full" than my 330 or 360, and held tons of clarity. He hands it to me and now I can't even FIND my jaw. I'd always wanted a 381, but never got the chance to play one. Now I did. Now I'm screwed.

So what did I do? I waited for them to finish initial tracking today, and as soon as they were done, I offered to buy it from him.

$1300 and one Applebee's dinner later, it's sitting on a stand next to me at the studio.

I love it so far, and I feel like I got a pretty good deal. I'm happy. When I can get my girlfriend here we'll take pictures.

Congratulations, Sean! 1300 bucks plus dinner sounds like a bit of a steal to me!!

Looking forward to the pics. I've seen some 381s that have beautiful flame and are absolutely stunning!!

Sean,

Nice story and a great outcome! You managed to score a top of the range Rickenbacker for a very reasonable price. Hope to see some photos soon!

Excellent deal, especially for one with the figuring in the wood which you describe. Pics please!

It is now..... LURV that 381V69! There was one on eBay here a few months ago but the price was ridiculous. Perhaps one of those could be my 'special' purchase when I'm over there......

Aitch, If we can manage the "Twin Cities Rickenconfluence" thing while you're here, I'd be glad to bring that one and my 325 and maybe another one or two for you to meet in person. Image

....But Sean, I don't want to steal the show--I put mine up just to keep us occupied until you post a few pics of yours!
