Proud Papa!
Birth Announcement:
New Arrival in our home A bouncing new 360-12
Color: Midnight Blue
Weight: 8 pounds
Name: To be determined (Ricky sounds way too obvious)
First words: "Traveling from Virginia to Seattle got me really out of tune, dad..."
Parent and baby have been bonding nicely after a minor bridge adjustment (teething at the 5th fret). Will spend more quality time tomorrow after work.
Dr. Hall insists I need to get a sibling for this little guy so he won't be lonely while I'm away. Now to decide which one...

Hello Seth,
Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your preferment (buying a Ric that is). Pictures are always welcome here.
You are from Seattle? That's a great city and you have the Seahawks! You are a lucky guy all around.

Seth,
Did you buy your 360 from Classic Axe? If you did, that's the first 12 string that I've seen with the new headstock. Best of luck to you, and don't forget to take some pictures!

Seth, I was at Classic Axe last month and played that guitar. It has such a sweet sound, and looks awesome. I almost bought it myself, but I already have one in FG. I'm jealous, even though I already live in a little place called Rickenbacker Heaven.

Yes, this guitar did come from Classic Axe. I was shocked that they had one in this color (I'd been searching for months!)
Baby and I have done a lot of bonding and have had some growing pains together. Seems little Ricky was born with a severe case of intonation rash--the G string pair on the 5th/7th frets was so off, that it wouldn't tune. Time for minor saddle surgery--including moving the bridge base plate since there wasn't enough run-out room in the saddle to fix it. Got it fixed just as two strings decided to give way under protest for being wound/unwound so many times...
So off I dash to the one-and-only Ric dealer in the Seattle area and what do you know, they don't have any Ric strings. (I have some on order from POTR but they're not here yet). So I made do with some D'Addario's to replace the broken ones until the others arrive.)
Everyone who sees this baby comments on how gorgeous it is (what proud papa doesn't think his baby is the cutest, right?)
The new addition required buying a new Amp (my Marshall AS50R is sufficient for my acoustic guitars but sucked for anything else.) So Friday I came home with a lovely wine red Traynor. Very, very sweet sounding amp. The Ric has an interesting "chorus-like" quality, even without digital chorusing.
I may look into getting a new nut--as I'm having a heck of a time fingering chords below the 3rd fret. The neck width is fine, it's just the string spacing. I got the name of a luthier in Seattle who's done some work for other Ric owners. We'll see what he has to say. I was surprised by this issue, since the neck measures the same width as my Ovation 12--but the spacing is wider on that guitar.
Overall impressions:
Appearance: A (everyone drools too close for comfort)
Sound: A
Smell: A
Factory setup: C-
Got to buy another factor: A+
More to follow...

Stunninng blue, Seth..... love it! The Midnight Blue Ricks I've seen over here have been quite dull. Yours seems to have an almost metallic quality. If I didn't have enough already I'd order one in that colo(u)r!!
Do you think the setup problems are all due to the factory? Did you play one before you purchased? String spacing would seem to be a bit of a raffle if you take on board some of the posts here, but that could be expectations rather than fact.
The bridge and saddle positioning.... who knows! Did the dealer set it up or just ship "as is"? I would have thought that was one area where some attention was given.

Nice one Seth. I had a midnight blue 330-12 which I sold & regret it. It is a lovely colour & really comes into its own under stage lighting. A friend of mine saw it & was unsure about the colour, but after he'd seen it under stage lighting, he exclaimed 'Rickenbacker really know what they're doing'!
'Rickenbacker'...what a name! After all these years, it still thrills me.
Beautiful! I really like that blue. Enjoy
Mr. Hall insists in other posts that the intonation issue is either due to travel or the dealer & that they leave the factory set up properly. String spacing on the 12's does seem to be an issue with a lot of folks. Still need to get one myself!
