What statement is that?

I would have painted it pink but my boyfriend prefers this color!

The statement of being different...

Nothing wrong with Pink either. I'd happily sell some of my Ric basses for a original 62 Jazz in custom Shell Pink...

I bet you wouldn't say that if the bass player for The Bangles was wearin' it...

You boys and your 'pink allergies'...especially ironic when you think of where we all came from...

Hey, I had a P bass pickup in my '73 is just about that location! I also had an extra knob in the same spot.

I think the reason for the P is that back then you just couldn't get a lot of low end out of most 4001's with the available amps at the time. I used to see this great band in NJ (Rat Race Choir) and the bass player had a P on his JG 4001. It sounded really good, so an hour before a gig one day I said "what the heck" and added one to my bass... while my band mates stood there saying.. "Come on Dave.. what the heck are you doing... we gotta go!" Ha!

As far as the color... I kind of like it. Also it's an October 1974 4001... not bad! Worth buying and restoring.

Hey Jeff, pink was a popular color back in the 80's! My 8 string used to be day glo pink!

Actually, a 4003 in pastel pink would be so freaking amazing; not only would people notice the sound and look of the Ric, they'd REALLY notice the color. Imagine if you're playing a grind or metal band and you've got a bright pink bass! I would take it (without the Bee).
