Lennons playboy interviews
When I first read Yoko's statements I thought what a pisser, but after I really thought about it I just figured I had to consider the source from which these statements were made. Yoko is very self centered, she has always been envious of the bond that John & Paul had (even during the troubled times). She was always trying to control John and influence his thoughts especially regarding his musical history & background (which included his relationship with Paul). I also find it really sad that her selfish attitude also influenced John in his relationship with Julian. Sometimes I wonder what in the Hell John was thinking regards to the decisions he made. But I guess Yoko was pumping him up with all her "you don't need anybody else in your life but me" BullSh_t. To me her recent statements just reinforce the fact that she is still jealous of that bond and feels it's still necessary (after all these years) to criticize Paul and his writing and singing ability.
I for one believe John was a tremendous talent, especially his song writing capabilities, but he was better with Paul & vice versa. Paul has written just as many quality tunes as John. They will always be compared to each other because of their self proclaimed rivalry. As far as John being a better singer, that is really subjective depending on what style vocals you are looking for. Personally I always thought Johns vocals were a bit more bluesy / soulful than Paul's. However, Paul's range and dynamics seem a bit more advanced. Either way they were / are both fantastic singers and sounded great together.
Again, as far as Yoko and her insinuations about Paul's writing and singing capabilities, just consider the source. Here's a women that couldn't carry a tune in a 200 gallon bucket much less have any song writing talent.
Oh yea, did anyone notice Yoko trying to prosper of John's name again with her new John Lennon Collection Jewelry series? I happened to catch some of it on QVC Saturday night. She had one of her Reps on the show constantly stating that this was done so the fans could have some sort of connection with John. What a bunch of ****, this is just another one of Yoko's ventures to make money off John and his name. To me that is the saddest thing of all, her constant self indulgence & exploitation off a true music legend that she was lucky enough to be involved with. What a great girl (lol)! - JMO

So David why don't you tell us what you really think of Yoko. LOL
I have empathy with much of what you say on the subject. I share your perception of that woman. But lets not lose sight of the fact that John truly loved her. As difficult as that may be to imagine, it appears to be fact.
Oh yeh don't forget that she is a self proclaimed avante garde artist. So that probably means (to her at least)that she can get away with doing things that we find abhorrent. Like shamelessly selling Lennon collection jewelry for a living on QVC.

Brian, Sorry I came across seeming so heartless regarding John and is love for Yoko. I just have a hard time understanding how she could still be carrying a grudge against Macca because of (what I perceive as) his relationship with John. He was Johns first true soul-mate (musically as well as their friendship). There is nothing wrong not being the only close person in someone elses life. It just seems that she has displayed this self centered tendency from the very beginning of her relationship with John. I guess I just figure as you grow older and mature you stop being so childish and act like a considerate adult. Nobodies an angle, but her continued bashing just seems silly, she should just let it go. Again JMO.

Jewelry? On QVC? She should put it in an uncomfortable place, sideways. Gimme a break.
My own "connection" with John Lennon, oddly, does not feature Yoko in any way. Always thought she had good business sense to turn a fortune into a bigger one, but this one makes me ill.

When she finally realizes that she can't sing Dane she will probably sell off his band equipment. That would make for one frenzied auction.

I found the Yoko Ono art exhibition at the SFMoma really charming. Some of it was silly, but some of it was a wonderful combination of Japanese art with a modern sensibility, the "wish tree" for example. "Cut Piece" is just plain brilliant.
Now the problem sometimes with modern/performance/avant garde art is that it can be of it's time, or of only temporary importance. I remembr that nun that used to be on PBS stalking about "**** christ" by Mapplethorpe and how she got what Mapplethorpe was doing, but that it was "newspaper" art, only "good" in the moment. Even her stuff that was like that though, still made one think of how different things were back then.
I was born in 1969, so the beatles were always 'broken up' from my perspective, but I really find the vitriol against Yoko Ono to be pretty amazing. yeah, it is super cheesy to have Lennon ties, and Lennon prints, and Lennon jewelry, but hey, there are some Lennon guitars. Somehow that is different than a tie or an earing?
She does have some really cool music too. Granted, I don't care for it as much as I do The Beatles or the beatles solo stuff, but whatever.

Ono was Lennon's partner for roughly as long as Mac or Cynthia (who in her book says Ono has a replica of the gun that killed John at the Dakota. Yikes!). And Mac and Cyn were with him from pre fame through Beatlemania, which to me, makes their input more interesting than that regarding the world peace spokesman-turned recluse.
I don't feel everything uttered by her is the be- all-end-all about John. He had feelings and opinions before he met her, and most likely while he was with her some even she doesn't know about.
Roughly 3/4 of his life was spent without her. What the others have to say has merit, at least as well as they are able to decipher this man. And what he said and felt about the world and others before Yoko was as real as what Yoko witnessed.
The selling of Lennon momentos might be her way of keeping his name alive, and perhaps hers as well. After she's gone, it'll be up to Sean.

Where? The Double Fantasy Album? Her vocal contributions on that album are more like primal screams. Perhaps I missed her best work, but I would have thought that she would have showcased her very best vocal material on that album.

Brian, I ask where also? Perhaps her orgasmic wailing at the end of Kiss Kiss Kiss qualifies..
Look if John had never climbed the ladder at the art show, where would she be now? Probably not shilling Lennon jewelry on QVC, which BTW gets me sick too!! At least I can edit her out of my library after I've ripped the lp to my pc.

You've got to be kidding. Her wailing and primal screaming is her best stuff, her actual attempt at singing is brutal. As far as Yoko hawking anything with John's name on it, sure she has a right, I'm not begrudging that. It's how she does it, trying to tell the public it's their chance to have a connection to John. Quite honestly, I think most of us know (those of us whom have studied up on the personality that was John W. Lennon) he would have balked at all this stuff she is hawking. Again she's not adding value to his legacy, she's only concerned with adding value to her bank account.
