JC-120 - finally!!

I do quite like the 70s distortion - the Gibson ES-335 sounds great!

Out of my Ricks, so far I've only put the 360V64 and 660/12 through it - the 1997 is next. Then I'll start experimenting with the Janglebox, followed by the AC-30/JC-120 combination with the Rick-O-Sound unit. The adustable chorus mod is great - sometimes you need a bit less than 'full on'!!

Seems like I've got some loooooong nights and weekends ahead of me............

Congrats, Aitch. I love my JC-120.

660/12 + JB + JC-120 = jangle heaven (imho).

I can't imagine how great an AC-30/JC-120 combination will sound.

BTW, we've got a Rickenbacker 'mini-confluence' happening down here on October 30, so the ol' JB will get a serious run! I will be interested (as will you, no doubt) to hear their impressions.

That JC 120 is an 80's model with the line out ext speaker outs, the earlier models did not have these features.

I have had 3 JC's & currently have a JC77 2x10" The Jazz Chorus was a designed as a transistor version of a Fender Twin Reverb supposedly.

I'd love to know how that Chorus mod was done!

The chorus is sometimes a bit too much although sounds miles better than any pedal out there.

Speakers & better reverb tanks are good upgrades on these amps. Distortion is OK for lead boost with a switch.

Mine's a bit hissy & could do with a service although I don't know anything about SS amps!

John: Thanks for the rough dating. I'll give the seller a call - he can put me in contact with the guy who did the mod. Apparently it wasn't that big a job. I've got a couple of FS5U foot switches that do the switching nicely!

One thing I have found - make sure the vibrato/chorus switch is in the 'off' position when you power up to avoid a loud pop! That could be a condition of its age, of course.

Peter: I've been hunting around for that info myself, but no luck to date. Roland don't give much away on their web sites. I'll keep looking.

Roland speakers are branded by Roland same speaker is in the tube amp Roland Bolt 60 as well.

I'd say they are supposed to similar to Fender speakers JBLs with silver cones.

I tried some spare Eminence Legend 105's in my JC but it sounded better with Roland speaker for chorus side & Legend 105 for the uneffected speaker. 2 Legend's sounded a bit hissy!

Some poster on the Fender Forum has installed Weber Californias (JBL type)in his JC90 2x10 and seems happy with them.

Theres not much info on Roland or SS amps about.

I'd like to upgrade the speakers & check & upgrade the components inside as I've worked on Twin Reverbs just Blackfacing them etc,

Great idea of using a JC with a Twin or Vox AC30 with a stereo Rickenbacker though!

Before getting a BF control panel, you should get the Twin modified to BF spec circuitrywise. It will sound much better than the SF spec amp.

Gerald Weber's "A Desktop Reference Of Hip Vintage guitar Amps" has good info and is a must have book for tube amp affictionados.

I got a Blackface plate from tubeampdoctor in Germany was expensive though theres also some on Ebay usually.

The Gerald Weber book is what I used to blackface the circut in my TR. It sounds much better it was too sterile before!
