They are really great gtrs John, very good sound. The only problem with them is the volute! It is the one thing that makes mine a possible 'moving on' gtr. Some people don't notice it, but I do & it bugs the hell out of me.
I still haven't decided whether to ask Paul to sort it for me, or just move it on. It's a shame, because apart from that, it's a really great gtr.

'Rickenbacker'...what a name! After all these years, it still thrills me.

I found out the pickups on my '89 are humbuckers, and they are quite hot, and grind really nicely when the gain is up. They clean up pretty well too, but can be harsh, which is why I use flatwound strings on it. It was my first guitar, and I've never get rid of it. It sounds good and plays good overall, but I have to be picky about which amps I play it through or it can sound bad. It doesn't work at all for blues through a blackface Fender.
I'd really like to try one with single coils someday. Wonder how they sound compared to the buckers?
