WOW!! Kevin that is a total stunner! Beyond a doubt the nicest 381 I have ever seen. Sigh! Made my day and wrecked it all at the same time. You are quite fortunate to have such a beauty.
Wow!

Never, ever drool on your surf shirt. It wrecks the solo.

The color of that 381 is beautifully aged. When I take flash pictures of my '04 MB 381, it looks just like that.
Just like Tony Carey's proselytizing on behalf of FG 330s, I look at my 381 and say, "who could not think that this was gorgeous?".
Then I try to imaging George Harrison playing one.
*Pop.* What a confusing image.

I've never been a big fan of the 381, but I saw one "live" recently at a guitar store north of Denver not long ago and it IS much more impressive in person. It still looks "bulky" to me compared to the other models but the one I saw (FireGlo, by the way) was very pretty.
All of that having ben said, the only 12 string to buy nowadays is the 660 or the Tom Petty. They're the cresting wave to go!

Whew...... I guess I'm glad I asked, though I didn't expect a left coast fashion update. Just goes to show you you never know what you'll get when you ask! Serves me right for being away for a few days!
But, back to the 381/12. For one I'm glad to find out that they are comfortable to play. I was a little concerned about that. I think that if George H. had had a choice and the 381/12 would have been available in '63 the would have taken it over the 360/12.
I think that the fireglo is the finish I'll go with when the time comes. My 660/12 in vintage turquoise will have to go. Any ideas as to a good asking price?
