How many exist?

I closed the deal today on this one, I should have it in about 2 to 3 weeks.

that looks like a 4008 and not a 4003s8 ... and in silver ... Dave, you need a five stringer to go with that huge collection in your basement ...

Dave,great find I never I mean never have seen a silver 4008.

And by the way at Atomic music in college park,MD they have a silver 4003 for sale it almost looks turquoise from the discoloration

It's in the orientation of the strings; in the 4008, the octave strings are on top, whereas on the 4003S/8, they are on the bottom.

However, the bass models article states that the 4008 was discontinued in 1983, and the 4003S/8 was introduced in 1987 - obviously, this one falls between the cracks! It might be worth e-mailing the serial number to RIC service and have them check to see what the model designation was.
