Not going to happen- not only is the pickup on the 4003's in the correct position as far as minimizing hot/cold spots, it's in the right place for optimum neck/body strength and can handle almost any string.

The C Series basses had to compromise on both of these points in the interest of authenticity.

JH,

If you don't mind my asking, what was the reasoning behind moving the pickup back to the neck on the 4004? Just curious.

"Current production has the 4004 bass position pickup back against the neck and it will be staying there."

Thank you for helping me out with this one Mr. Hall. I'll probably still buy one anyway. I was looking at Jeff's bass.. it's beautiful. As I had stated I'd much prefer the space, but I really don't want to sit around and wait for one to pop up on ebay or someone on here to sell one. I'd buy one and deal with it.. never know.. I might like it. And if I don't well.. I'll think of something.

Also if you guys at RIC ever have the chance.. shouldn't you change the picture on the site? Considering you don't make the 4004 with the space anymore.. Image

Yes yes! Laredos and Cheyennes have walnut ears again as God intended. The pickup slots were moved to make neck repairs easier. Truss rod access you see.

Thanks for the good explanation, Ben. Just saying they were moved and not giving a good reason was kind of odd. Well with that in mind I'd have to get used to the placement. Making it easier to repair seems better than me being picky about a cosmetic thing.
