SVT4PRO w/4003 ?

Post by craigv »

It's finally time to upgrade my rig. I've got a 4003 to which I've added the .0047 cap and needless to say I'm going for the Chris Squire type sound.

I think I've got my choice narrowed to either an SVT-CL or SVT-4PRO. While the -CL has the "tone", the 4PRO seems pretty damned close (no?), and has gobs of headroom as well.

The thing that may be swaying me towards the SVT-4PRO is the fact that it's got stereo/biamp amps. From looking over the owner's manual online, it appears that with the future addition of a second preamp, such as an SVT-PRO , I can have a truly stereo rig. If I were to get an SVT-810E cabinet, I could even run both channels into the one split cabinet, for a relatively compact rig putting out 900 watts.

Has anyone here used such a setup, or would you recommend getting the SVT-CL and waiting until I can get a second rig to run stereo? The possibility of getting a true stereo rig for the 4003 is very tempting. I'm really scraping bottom to pay for this rig and I don't want to screw it up...I'd like it last me a long time.

Hey Banta...small world, I thought I recognized your name on Harmony Central. And here I figured I'd get more opinions....;-)

You might be disappointed to read that I finally decided upon the SVT-4PRO and the PR-410HLF cabinet. I played this and the SVT-CL/SVT810E for about three hours in the store last night. It was a very, very close call. I could get just about the exact SVT tone from the 4PRO. The difference was the clarity and shear force present in the 4PRO's bottom. It rumbles with some real authority, and the midrange is absolutely perfect for the Ric.

Anyway, thanks for the advice....it helped me make sure I was making the right choice for me. Better go and start gloating on the Harmony Central site.....

Cool. Image Either rig would be great with a Ric.
