Is this a copy?

Post by rickfan60 »

This is being sold as a copy but it looks pretty real in the ****** picture. It appears to be a '77 or later 4001. It does not have the usual tell-tale signs. Sergio?

Hard to tell with only one pic....but you're right, it's a good one, need to look under the hood or at the outputs.

The knob placement looks a little off but it could just be the shadows cast by the 10 o'clock lighting. I asked the seller for more pics.

The photo looks like a real Rick to me. Maybe he put up a photo of a real Rick but is selling a fake Rick. Then when he sends the fake one, he can claim that he stated in the auction that it was a faker and you knew it when you bid.

This not only looks genuine, it also appears to have a genuine vintage warranty card hanging from it.

Indeed, this might not be the photo of the bass actually up for sale but because the owner declares it to be a fake, we had no choice but to mark it for deletion.

John,
Thanks for looking out for us all. I wish you could better spend your time providing products and services so infringers wouldn't get a chance to capitalize on the demand. I can not believe how bold scamers and infringers have become.

The seller just offered it to me for $545. I asked for more pics. I'll post anything I get. Probably a fake auction.

So I asked the seller for more pictures.

JH is right about the hangtag. If you zoom in on it you can tell there is a Rickenbacker logo near the top.

Well, take a look at this:

I knew I had seen that 4001 somewhere before.
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.

Damn, Sergio. You are indeed the man! I am guessing that the seller will not be sending me those pictures after all.

It is back but with real pictures this time. Too bad the seller is keyword spamming again.
