Yeah I am into treating my instruments well... but character is key!!! I love my 72 because although it has been cared for very well over the years (neck is flawless) you can tell it has been played tons because of the wear. Used not abused... and I love it.
If a bass is mint you are not playing it enough. And if you play it and it is still mint than you are just not rocking out hard enough!!!
Mind you , if I had 8 different rics and I played them all the time it would be hard to wear any one of them out.

I have been playing mine every evening this week and jammed with it last night. I can't explain in words how good those p/u's sound! I even used the xlr to go directly thru the board... and trust me, the "weird" looking p/g grows on you
.
I will definitely be playing this one a LOT....I know I can always send it back to Dale for a refin if I mess it up
Blair, if you ever want to give that fretless 4002 a really top-notch refinish, I will personally recommend Dale Fortune! Dale KNOWS walnut! .... but it looks fine the way it is, mojo and all...
Oh, by the way....WELCOME to this great forum! 4002's tend to be a bit .... distracting!

There's another one ?!?
I always wondered if I had the only FL 4002. (I didn't really think that I did but...you know... I kinda hoped).
I guess I should introduce myself, name's Bill, mainly a lurker here. I swing by every month or so or when I see something on ebay. The expertise and scam alerts and shutdowns bring joy to my heart. I saw this thread and thought I'd chime in...
Anyway, I stumbled on mine while looking on the net for a 4005. Never found a 4005 but saw the 4002 and knew a bit of the history and saw that it was factory fretless. My bank account went on a quick diet. I'll post pics momentarily.
