TI gauges are somewhat misleading. I changed to TI flats that have a .136 B string after using GHS rounds with a .128, and the nut slot is fine. Tension is significantly lower than other string brands, too. When I switched, I went from .045 G to .044 TI G and had to raise the saddle quite a bit. Same thing on D and A.
I did have rounds on my V63 too Ted. They were DR Lo-Riders(I still have them on my 4003), but after I had extensive repairs done on it to fix a neck crack a previous owner put on it, I decided to put flats on it for good, to reduce any minor fret wear and to keep any more neck and fret work to a bare minimum. So far, everything has been fine, the neck has been rock solid, and the bass has performed extremely well.
I recently went back to playing a Rickenbacker bass. Its like meeting an old friend again
