Buying a guitar for my son (and myself!)

Hello, I'm a bass player and all my posts so far have been in the bass section of this great forum. My son (age 15) wants to start playing guitar (6-string). Wich Rickenbacker model would you recommend? In the price range: Lower than $1000 on e-bay...

I would recommend the Model 330 Lars. A classic guitar with a great sound at an affordable price. Also, there are fair number to choose from.

I think Peter has it in a nutshell! 330, classic in every department & IMO, probably the best sounding gtr in the world. You'll get an ebay one for around $800-$850 I would have thought. Have a look in this forums for sale section, or post in the wanted section before you go to ebay.
'Rickenbacker'...what a name! After all these years, it still thrills me.

Buy the 330 in FG if you can. That is a classic colour

I would suggest the 660 series. It's smaller solid body and neck make for a Rock Guitar that a teenager would love more so than the hollow 330/360 series, although they are both great guitars. The smaller bodied 660 hangs well and is balanced in tone and playability.

I'm inclined to agree with Dale, however my choice would be a 620 rather than a 660 - would cost less and the narrower neck may suit younger hands better. My son is into heavy metal stuff and the only one that he would like (ie. that suits his style of music) is a 620FG.

Hey Bob Bellof has a 650D for under $675 US in the For Sale section.

My son has a mapleglo 350v63 waiting for him when he's 16. He's only 10 months old now so the guitar should be nicely played in by then !
