Dead Bridge Pickup on 4003?
Hi,
I just got my new (well it was built in 81, but i just got it a week ago) 4003 back from the tech who set it up. I was having a problem with the trebel end of the guitar and thought that just the switch was just bad. When i put it on trebel only the signal is very weak, not like when i have it on the bass end. The tech looked at the switch and all the wiring and said it looked fine and is probally a bum pickup. Any suggestion on what to do? i want to make sure this is the problem before i mail 125 buck to RIC for a new bridge pickup.

Ira: Should this be your pickup, and it sounds as if it may be, why not post under the Wanted topic of this Forum. Also, try Dealers such as Mike Parks or Chris at Pick Of The Ricks, as they are likely to give you a better deal on the cost of a new pickup.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Ira, hello
this reply isnt directly to your problem ,but i just got off the phone with the store i bought my 01 4003 from. all i wanted was a tune up lower my action a bit and make sure everything is good.the SOB told me a set up would take a week.....i hate these people.....they are all primadonna`s
with that said maybe you could check the pick up wires with a volt meter. call ric and ask them what the ohms/ voltage read out should be and test it yourself.
i too would like to trust a guitar tech to do my set up but it seems more and more you may have to do it yourself.

well,i took it back up to a DIFFERENT tech today to get the pickups looked at. I got it back from the last tech and he seems to have done more harm than good becasue after playing it for a half hour the low end completely ******* out. I took a look at the low gain pickup and it was probally one of the worst sodering jobs i have ever seen. damn kid. Well anyway, this guy is testing both the pickups and is supposedly really good with electronics so i should know by tommorow or friday what is up with this.

Just got it back, that tech knew what he was doing and got it all working good, however the high gain pickup is dead.
Sergio, If you have something that i will be able to use, send me an email at [email protected]

Hi again, Ira.
I don't know whether you're still looking for a treble pickup for your 4003. Last weekend, as I was browsing through one of my boxes of bass parts & stuff I found a pickup which may suit your needs. I remember I used it in the late 90's on a 4001 I sold two years ago. It neither looks like a Rick pickup nor looks new, but it kicks a**! I've measured it - 8.0 K. It is fully shielded, has adjustable polepieces and I've mounted it on a baseplate I made many years ago. It is ready to be installed. Since I no longer need it, you can have it for free. Interested?

A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.
