I play everything. I mean I can pull off the RUSH and all that. But then again I also play fretless (not on Jacos level yet but i play it very well) and I also play aot of blues and R&B. So I got great timing too. I can really get into a groove. Which is what its all about really. I also play finger pick and slap.

Im trying to get a recording machine for Xmas. A small one with a couple tracks or something. Just so I can scratch things out. Then you guys can hear a new song every day! Nah... but ill put up some things.

Nate... Maybe your Dads right... But if you think Im gonna let you be the best... Youv got another thing coming. Haha. My best compliments come from Chip. I mean Iv had some guys that have made it big locally call me phenominal and all that stuff. Which was great. But Chip well be 100% with me. He told me I got talent and I can really do something with this. And If i quit that hes gonna kick my ***. I couldnt stop if i wanted to now.

Kevin, you married your drummer's sister? Big mistake. One of my guitarists and I married two of the other guitarists sisters. So we have brothers-in-laws and a drummer. One the other hand, we probably will be playing together for a long, long time (2006 is the band's 25th anniversary).

Nate, good luck and always be willing to listen and learn. Most of us here have dealt with great musicians that were humble and mediocre musicians that thought they were the best thing to happen to music. You can actually learn from both types.

Yeah, I married the drummer's sister. The band split up a few years ago, but the sister...ah, she's a good one. She let me buy a 4080! I get along great with the drummer still. He's a great guy & a fantastic drummer, & the guitarist is my best friend.
The bands I've played the longest with were all friends as well. No friction.
You can (and should) learn from anyone, though. Even if they're not as good as you, they have different ideas & different perspectives, & can open the way to new ways to create your own style.

About five years ago, I auditioned for a really good blues band. I took my wife with me to keep me company. I introduced her to the band as my wife, and her name happens to be YOKO.

Well, I thought is was funny. I wonder why they never called be back???

Well , it must be miserable being a teenager these days. At a certain age one does know everything and one does feel invincible.

It takes time for reality to change one's perspective. I know that I knew a hell of a lot more about everything when I was younger.

Its not braging if you can back it up??? I think Jaco said that. I dont say it to anyones face. I dont tell other musicians Im better then them. Even if they suck... I dont say they suck or im better then them. I really try not to brag to people.

Also I dont believe I said I know it all. I have alot alot alot to learn. I mean... Lets face it. You guys are right... You never stop learning as a musician. You never stop getting better. As long as you keep going then youll always be learning.

That punk band I was talking about. I love those guys. They are all awesome guys. The drummer is gonna be amazing one day. Iv never talked bad about this guys. They are some of my best friends. When i say ****** little punk band Im commenting on the genre more then the guys.

In a band setting its all about the band. You all have to help each other. No one can lead the band on their own. Maybe I do have a ego problem. But I try not to hub anything in anyones face.

Your peers and contemporaries will decide if you are good, or even "great". Such redeeming qualities are hard earnt and can only be rewarded by said people...

It is not a title one can bestow upon one's self...

One's opinion of one's own "greatness" is utterly worthless, unless recognised and acknowledged by others....

I agree Andrew. Im normally not a confident guy. Other then with bass. And I guess thats cause Iv been told Im good. Some people react differently but basically thats all Iv heard. Ill try to stop defending myself now tho.

Guys.. I like the forum, but in the past day I've been kind of tortured for my opinions. I think I'm good.. people tell me I'm good.. but I have low self esteem and I put myself down ALL THE TIME! I always say "that sucked" or "that could've been better" after I play a song. I always say my singing is terrible, but everyone I know loves it. I always think I suck.. but when I think I'm good I let people know I'm in a good mood and I say "I think I kick *** today!"

Wow, Ron.. could that have been any more rude? So what if he says he's good.. let him think that.. if he sucks then tell him. But having no one ever really tell him he sucks can put up some sort of ego. So what? Everyone has an ego. Jacob is allowed to have an ego. I'm sure you had one when you were 16 too. Jacob's teacher tells him he's good.. adults tell him.. let him think that.

Good point, Andrew. The only reason I say I'm good is people have told me that. Other than that.. if I don't get reassurance every now and then I get depressed and want to quit.

Sure, I've told my friends they suck.. but they were beginners and they knew I was joking around. That's the only time I've ever said that. To friends that know I'm kidding. I just don't go up to random people and say "Man.. your playing really sucked!" That's just evil.
